Strengthening marriage before distance becomes separation

I help couples and families understand what is happening in their relationship, recognize where they are in the process, and find practical strategies to reconnect.

Not all marital crises are the same

Truly effective support begins by understanding what a particular couple needs at this specific point in their relationship.

Marriage Guidance

A space for thoughtful listening and discernment—to understand relationship patterns, bring clarity to what feels confusing, and decide on the next steps.

Relationship Education and Prevention

Resources for couples and families who want to care for their relationship, improve communication, and address the wear of daily life before it deepens.

Workshops and Training

Conferences and educational programs for organizations, schools, and communities seeking to strengthen marriage and family life.

The Stages of Marital Deterioration

Marital deterioration rarely happens overnight. It tends to unfold through recognizable stages, and each stage calls for a different response.

1. Parallel Lives

The couple continues to function, but gradually stops building a shared sense of “us.”

2. Belligerence

Life together becomes defensive, and one’s spouse begins to feel like an adversary.

3. Solitude as Relief

Distance no longer feels painful and begins to feel like relief from the relationship.

4. Separation or Divorce

Separation is considered—or becomes a reality—as a way out of accumulated deterioration.

About María Cornu Labat

Practical experience, academic training, and one conviction: it is always worth understanding before giving up

I hold a law degree and a master’s degree in Marriage and Family, and I am an internationally certified family coach, researcher, and doctoral candidate in Psychology. Since 2012, I have supported couples, developed relationship education programs, and studied the processes that lead to marital deterioration.

Author of Ser Nosotros and creator of a stage-based model that brings together work with couples, interdisciplinary reflection, and academic research.

Deterioration can unfold silently. Recognizing it early changes what is possible.

If you feel that something has been lost between you, there is no need to wait until the crisis becomes irreversible before seeking guidance.
